good idea on the cable...though I rarely burn and normally just use my monitor...with that said, I might pick one up just to see how it works...

(btw: one of the reasons that I like this idea is that I am using an old machine sans sound card to do downloading and then I transfer it to my main machine and the cord would definitely speed up my viewing pleasure...)

sorry to hear about the back...just so you know you have some company since I am "enjoying" a week of lower back spasms myself, though I think most of mine is due to stress, lack of sleep, etc., etc...my BIG mistake was not spending the $$$s to get on the meds...I hate that having to sit-up in bed to compose oneself prior to rolling from one side to another due to the pain...:-(

hopefully your disk isn't that serious and you are on your way to recovery soon!!!

time to return to fritz lang: http://www.archive.org/details/M_

(the movie is just too good...)

Well, hubby and I are getting more and more disgusted with television. There are so very few TV shows I actually watch anymore... I'm basically interested in cop shows (like COPS, World's dumbest criminals) Mythbusters and Dirty Jobs, and that's about it. There's a couple of Brit shows I like on BBC America, but if I never watched them again, I'd be just fine with it.

We are seriously considering dumping cable. I'll miss football, but eh, I'll live.

I have been living without a tv for nine years or so and it feels pretty good. I might miss some sports and special events, along with being a little slow on certain cultural topics, but I know personally I am better off for it. Though I know many people who it helps them get through their day, so it is important to many.

btw: if I was still pro sports crazy then I would most likely still have a set...

In place of current tv I listen to a couple of concerts a night or other music and if I want to watch something, I will watch some "classic" tv or a movie. Thanks to netflix, I have finally received the foreign film education that I have been wanting for years.

Now that I've found this site, I can watch programs I enjoy and not be assaulted by network television and their desire to shove sex and violence down my throat, along with the daily dose of loose morals. I simply don't need that in my life anymore. My husband still likes watching the news, and he loves his football, so we will probably keep the cable tv. But that doesn't mean I have to watch it. I just sit here with my laptop and headphones and watch The Lucy Show, or random commercials.
